EJEngine Journal
COOKIE POLICY

Browser storage, explained plainly.

Engine Journal uses necessary cookies for secure account access and a small amount of local storage for browser-only features. We do not currently use advertising or analytics cookies.

Cookies and local storage

Cookies are small values a website asks a browser to send with later requests. Local storage remains in that browser and is not automatically sent with each request. Necessary authentication cookies may be set when you request an image code, sign in, change a password, or sign out.

Necessary authentication cookies

  • vehlume_session is an HttpOnly sign-in cookie. It expires after 30 days or earlier when you sign out, change your password, or the server revokes the session.
  • vehlume_challenge_browser is an HttpOnly browser-binding cookie used for the six-digit image code on registration and sign-in. It lasts up to 10 minutes and is cleared after successful authentication.
  • vehlume_cookie_consent records version v1 of this notice for up to 180 days so the first-visit banner does not reappear on every page.

Authentication cookies use SameSite=Lax and Path=/; production authentication cookies also use Secure. The image code limits automated requests and does not verify ownership of an email address.

Browser-local features

Local storage supports browser-only comments and drafts, helpful votes, a browser guest identifier, and DMV study progress. Clearing it resets those features on that browser. These entries are not the account Session cookie.

Analytics and advertising

Engine Journal does not currently load analytics or advertising cookies. If optional measurement, personalized advertising, or another non-essential technology is introduced, the consent interface and this policy will be updated before that technology is enabled.

Your choice

The first-visit notice has an “Agree” button that saves the notice cookie. You may continue browsing without selecting it. Necessary image-code and Session cookies may still be used when you choose registration or sign-in because those features cannot work securely without them.

Managing stored data

You can remove this site's cookies and local storage through your browser's privacy or site-data controls. Doing so signs this browser out, removes the saved notice choice, and resets browser-only comments and study progress.

Third-party links

Pages may link to manufacturers, agencies, or other third parties. Their sites control their own cookies and privacy practices; review their notices before providing information.

Policy changes

We will update this page when storage practices materially change. The date above indicates the version currently in effect.
